Based on material that has not been covered anywhere else on this exam, but which you studied in preparation for this exam, write a substantive short answer question and answer it. Do not write a simple “Yes” / “No” or “True” / “False” question. Make it substantive. You may write about topics from question 42 [the short essay question at the end] that you did not or will not write about; however, do not repeat material from other parts of this exam. This is your chance to discuss material you studied which was not included elsewhere on this exam. (1 pt. for an appropriate question and 6 pts. for a complete answer to an appropriate question.)

Briefly discuss your view of the nature of science, making specific reference to the assigned readings and/or the discussion in lecture. (7 pts.)
Essay: choose 1 topic to write.( 3 paragraph at least and essay format)
Choose one of the following topics to discuss; you will indicate your choice by circling the topic, then you will write your essay in the space on the exam below the question and/or on the back of the page (and if need be, the backs of other pages of the exam). You may use diagrams, tables, and bullet points as part of any answer. Make your points succinctly, but be sure to include specific details and examples, as appropriate. a) Biodiversity: What is biodiversity? How is it determined? Why is it important? Address changes in biodiversity over time both locally and globally, including causes of such changes. What might be done to preserve biodiversity in the future?
b) Ecology: Discuss various aspects of community ecology, ecosystem dynamics, food webs, food chains, and species interactions. Include specifics and examples to illustrate your points.
c) Demography: Discuss basic aspects of population demography including population research methods, species distributions as found in nature, population growth models, survivorship curves, and life histories. Include specific examples to illustrate the points you make.
