For this week’s assignment, you will administer, to yourself, the Beck battery of assessments as an experiential exercise. The goal of this activity is to help you understand and empathize with what it might be like for your clients to complete these types of assessments. Personally complete the BDI, BAI, BHS, and the BSS. After completing these instruments, use the scoring information on the “Scoring results for the Beck Inventories” found in the course resources. Be sure to not look at the scoring instructions until after you have completed the inventories. Once you have completed and scored this battery of assessments, answer the following questions in a discussion post. You do not need to submit the actual assessments. What was your experience completing these assessments? Were there items worded in a clear or unclear manner? Were questions asked in a way that may be misleading? Did the choices you were given to answer the items make it difficult to respond to the questions honestly and accurately? How did you feel about the results? Did you feel the results were accurate? Do you think the results painted a false picture of your current state of mind? How do you think your clients might feel if you administer these instruments with them? How would you help your clients feel relaxed and able to complete the instruments openly? Assuming these measures are just one part of the initial interview, briefly identify other important components of the initial interview.
