We have spent much of this semester talking about what good leadership and poor leadership look like. We have talked about incentives, recognition, appreciation, loyalty, and trust as areas to increase followership. In Chapter 9, Atchison discusses the importance of creating and sustaining a strong culture and defines it as when followers live the mission, values, and vision as often as possible and in as many ways as possible. This happens when followers see the leader as the person who tells the story of the organization, direction and beliefs. While we have discussed the changes we have been through, whether good or bad, this chapter takes a deeper look at successfully managing change. Atchison discusses the three types of change, which include developmental change, traumatic change, and managed change. While developmental and traumatic change are responsive, managed change anticipates the future. In managed change, you have to inspire followers so that everybody is aiming for the end result and outcome. Give an example when you had the opportunity to be a part of successfully managed change. This can be as a leader or follower. Use the strategies in Chapter 9 as a guide.
