1) Americans have not seemed able to get over their many difference, at least if we take present circumstances as a reliable guide. In short, the current setting is one of intense polarization and divided opinion. And yet it seems suspect, if not historically silly, to root such divisions only in matters since 2009, let alone more recently since 2017 or January 6, 2021. So turn back the clock. Use American Horizons chapter 27 and 28, and relevant sections of Susan Ware’s American Women: A Concise History to engage, contextualize, and explain the discord of the 1960s and 1970s. What caused the disruptions of those decades? How were these disruptions a consequence of the cold war? How was this about disagreements over the place of and opportunities for women? What elements of those fights from the 1960s and 1970s did the country seem to leave under-resolved?
