Over the course of this project, you will choose a law, research it, and create an argumentative essay
describing the law-making process and whether the law-making process is too easy or too difficult.
Your final product will be an argumentative essay that responds to the inquiry question: Is the law-making process in the United States too easy or too difficult?
Select a recently passed law addressing an issue of interest to you. You will map the law-making process
from its creation as a bill to its passage by Congress, including any obstacles along the way. In this first part of the project, you will choose the law that you will focus on for the rest of this projcet
What problem is the law trying to solve?
Who initiated the bill?
What groups outside of Congress were involved in its creation?
Where did the bill start?
How did it move through Congress?
Who were its strongest supporters? Strongest opponents? What were the arguments on each side?
Was the bill passed with a bipartisan vote, or was it a party-line vote?
What obstacles did the bill face?
When was the bill signed into law?
What was the president’s response to the law?
What impact has the law had (or do you think it will have)?
Is it effective? Why or why not?

1. Thesis: Bill legislators were Slow to actually come up with ideas for the law and to actually pass it, the
government took a while to pass this law.
2. The people that caused issues for the bill to be passed because of their political views and the
influence to stop the bill in legislative sessions
