Question proposal – page 1
1. Billionaire tycoon and inventor, Elon Branson, announces with much fanfare that one of his companies has invented a new jet fuel that produces zero carbon emissions. However, he does acknowledge that some other criteria pollutants will be emitted. As a scientist with the federal government specializing in monitoring atmospheric pollutants, you are asked to evaluate Bransons claims and offer insight into whether his new jet fuel should be approved for use by commercial airliners. Describe the rationale behind your study, the hypothesis/es you will test, the methods and techniques you will use, the sorts of results you will generate, and their potential implications.

2. As an employee of the city of Cerritos tasked with monitoring environmental pollutants in the area, you come across preliminary evidence that a local factory has been discharging toxic waste into an abandoned lot not far from a low-income neighborhood. Your boss asks you to design, in collaboration with several colleagues with complementary skills, a study that determines the levels of toxic waste being emitted and their impacts on the local community. Describe the rationale behind your study, the hypothesis/es you will test, the methods and techniques you will use, the sorts of results you will generate, and their potential implications.

Describe the rationale behind your study, the hypothesis/es you will test, the methods and techniques you will use, the sorts of results you will generate, and their potential implications.
Question Proposal #4
1. Describe in detail an interesting research question on an environmental issue. How you would go about designing a study to answer this research question? Be sure to include (a) your hypothesis or hypotheses and (b) the methods you would use to (i) collect and (ii) analyze the data needed to address your research question. (c) How would you go about interpreting the results of your analyses? (d) What results would support – and which would be inconsistent with – your hypothesis or hypotheses? did you choose an observational or an experimental research design? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these types of research design?
