Write a paper on Literary and Historical Analysis in Jerusalem of David and Solomon transforming city into religious center of IsraelEssay Topic #1: Literary and Historical Analysis (25%)
We will be studying the following texts as part of the first half of the quarter: 2 Samuel 5:1–7:17; 1 Kings 6:1–8:21. Read these texts several times in order to familiarize yourself with their organization, imagery, and other literary features. Write a literary analysis of the two texts that makes an argument about the role that David and Solomon played in transforming the city into the religious center of Israel.
What images in these texts convey the holiness of the city? What actions did David and Solomon undertake to make the city a religious space?
It is strongly recommended that students use the article “Space” by Thomas Tweed and the assigned pages of Armstrong, Jerusalem to develop their thinking about these texts.
