In Social Insurance & Public Assistance Programs, we learned about major differences between social insurance programs and public assistance programs. TANF, replaced AFDC, was one iconic public assistance program enacted under the 1996 Welfare Reform. Whichever aspect was taken (politically, economically, socially, and practically), this change was enormous. We watched the two videos below together. Now, here comes the question: Where do you think TANF should go from here? Note. The question itself looks simple but the answer is not. While there is no right or wrong answer to what you think TANF should go from here, you will need to pull in textbook material to make a sound argument. You could start with understanding the major differences between AFDC and TANF, such as the historical political-economic background of both policies and the consequences of both policies, then logically discuss your thoughts about what policymakers should do with TANF.
