This assignment is intended to help the student develop a better understanding of gamification, because gamification can transform a company. Gamification can be integrated into business processes with meaningful and beneficial results.

Gamification also needs to be studied, because it can entice people to spend vast amounts of time on something they might otherwise care little about. In this case, awareness of some the tools that get us to waste our lives (and perhaps change our opinions) is a good thing.

Students can choose to complete either Option A or Option B. Choose one.

Option A:

Write a one page gamification plan for the employees of a company. The company can be an existing one, or one that you make up. The plan’s guidelines are:

Clearly define the problem you intend to solve or the opportunity you will seize. This is very important, since your score is based in part upon how effectively your plan solves the problem or seizes the opportunity.

The plan needs to be for the employees of one area (e.g., marketing, customer service, HR, training, accounting, etc.). Preferably, pick an area related to your major.

The plan should consist of multiple game mechanics (see the Gamification slides). While the plan need not be overly complex, three or fewer game mechanics are insufficient.

List each game mechanic that you use (use the game mechanics in the Gamification Slides). For each game mechanic, provide a description of how your plan uses that game mechanic.

The game mechanics need to work together in a manner that’s clear and coherent to the players.

The plan needs to go beyond the examples in the slides.

The game play itself needs to provide genuine benefit to the players. The players should not be doing something like clicking cows just to be clicking cows, or clicking cows just to get a reward. The activity and reward need to provide intrinsic benefit to the players.

List the expected outcome, and the quantified manner in which it will be measured.

Option B:

List at least five ways in which governmental COVID-19 actions match gamifications game mechanics. You may choose a single governmental entity, or multiple governmental entities. Include citations.

I encourage students to opt for this option. I believe Option B may be more instructive than Option A.
