Unit 5:
Some believe that information technology and the Internet have created a digital divide between the information rich and the information poor. Children, in particular, are often victims of the digital divide. Those without computers or Web access at home, as well as students who cannot afford computer equipment, are at a disadvantage and can often fall behind in their education. The speed of the Internet connection also plays a role in the digital divide discussion. Because of the availability of multimedia information on the Web, those who have faster connections may benefit more than those with slower connections. Increasing funding for computer equipment at schools and adding more computers in public places, such as libraries, can help offset this divide.
