Choose ONE of the following questions for your paper. Write an essay of minimum 4, maximum 5 pages (including bibliography, but excluding any illustrations), times New Roman size 12, single space. It is important that you show that you have read the literature! References should be frequent, using the Harvard system (e.g. Roslund 2020:15–17). You are welcome to use other authoritative sources of your choice, as long as you show you have read the course literature. And note that this is important: refer frequently to the literature. You may refer to the lectures but only as a complement to the literature. Your essay should be anonymised (do not write your name on it) and uploaded on Canvas no later than Friday 25th of March, at midnight (11.59 PM).
Question 1: The desire to trade is one of the driving forces of globalisation.
Describe what happens when people in a region starts to interact and connect
through trade with other areas of the world. How does the material culture
(buildings, towns, cultural landscapes, ships, objects) change as a result of this
trade? How do these changes influence and encourage globalisation?
To answer this question, you should focus upon maximum two (2) regions
only (you can choose one):

Question 2: Throughout the course we have discussed currents and traits of
globalisation from the dawn of mankind to the near present. Discuss similarities and
dissimilarities in processes of growing geographical, political, and economic
connections over time. What were similar and constitutes continuity, and where do
you see rapid changes and discontinuities? Focus on the long trends, at least from
the classical periods to the early modern period and give material examples
(buildings, towns, cultural landscapes, ships, objects).
