You need to write a 2 page (not counting citations) report on any plant, critter, or other living organism
(or virus / viroid/ prion) – one we discussed in class, or any other critter that interests you. Please discuss why it is important, as well as how it fits into the phylum, class, order, etc. that we have discussed thus far in class. I don’t expect something, like, for example, ‘A Cladogram of the Suborder Nematocera (Diptera) Including Medically Important Simuliidae, Culicidae and Ceratopogonidae’; but I do expect something more substantial than ‘Our Friend, the Beaver’.
You need at least 4 citations.
Bio 102 is a science class; format your citations using the format(s) of the Council of Science Editors (CSE), found at:
http://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/DocCSE.html (Links to an external site.)
Specific formats for various media citations are located here: http://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/DocCSE_CitationSystems.html#reflist (Links to an external site.)
Do not use Modern Language Association (MLA) format.
Here are some examples of correct (CSE) citation formats:
Holck AR, Meek CL. 1989. A computer program to calculate pesticide concentrations for mosquito larval susceptibility tests. J Am Mosquito Control Assoc 5:275-6
Holck AR, Meek CL.1991. Nocturnal distribution of Louisiana riceland mosquito adults. J Am Mosquito Control Assoc 7:628-32
Holck, AR. 1988. Current status of the use of predators, pathogens and parasites for the control of mosquitoes. Florida Entomologist 71:537-546
I cannot emphasize it enough – follow the correct citation format. Every period and comma counts.
