1. After you’ve read the short stories that deal with identity “Mr. Jones” and “The Girl with Bangs,” read the attached essay “My Gay Voice.” Think about it. You don’t have to be gay or have an issue to put yourself in the writer’s shoes.
2. This is the topic you’ll be considering for your essay: Have you ever had to assume another identity? Or act differently in front of someone else or a group? If so, why? This could relate to any aspect of your life, family, job, etc.
1. Submit your essay in MLA format.
2. You may use the 1st-person voice since it’s a Narrative Essay. Remember, this is not a short story, so you’re not making up anything. Skip the “You” voice.
3. No research is necessary unless you have to find some information or quote one of the authors of the pieces you must read for this exercise. If so, you’ll have to prepare in-text citations and a Works Cited page. Follow the module for the Works Cited page materials. See refreshers.
4. Word count: 500 words (not 200 and not 1,000 please).
5. Be original.
7. Submit material proofread. Watch out for grammatical errors, capitalize when properly, use “I” and not “i” when referring to you. Cut those super long sentences and paragraphs. Open with a strong “hook.”
