Mozart’s The Magic Flute
1. The Magic Flute presents two couples: Tamino & Pamina and Papageno & Papagena (and, arguably, a third—Sarastro & the Queen of the Night). Which couple has the stronger, more mature relationship and why?
IA: A properly constructed essay should contain a minimum of three paragraphs. (A properly constructed paragraph, in turn, contains at least three sentences.)
1. Introduction: The first paragraph contains the relevant background info to introduce your overall topic and should typically end with your thesis statement.
2. Body: This section consists of several paragraphs (depending on how complex, detailed, and substantive your argument is). The body of an essay presents the evidence that supports your thesis. In addition to discussing aspects of the plot and libretto, your essay must refer to specific musical elements in the opera that support your argument.
3. Conclusion: A well-constructed conclusion briefly summarizes your argument and paraphrases your original thesis.
4. Proofread! Read your paper aloud (or even better, have someone read it aloud to you). This will help you catch grammatical errors, awkward or unclear sentences, and other lapses (like redundancies). Spellcheck is a useful tool that will catch certain kinds of errors but it won’t flag everything, and autocorrect can create additional, unintended mistakes that only you can find and fix.
Length: 500-600 words

IF POSSIBLE, Watching the video of the opera can be useful to getting the essay done as well as any written sources.
