This is an example for another student:
From the discussion in class I thought a lot about how in the USA we always focus on third world countries having poverty issues (which is very valid) but why don’t we in the USA as a society acknowledge that poverty is a big issue here too. When it was looked up on google the images shown were all of third world countries. There are many strategies that are being implemented to help people who struggle with poverty like food banks, creating jobs and awareness. With our current economic system I believe we create a-lot of waste and with that extra money wasted it could go to a better cause. There is a lot of greed in the world. I was shocked at the video with a government official being challenged about his employees wages. It proves they are not existing in the same planet as most of us. As prices rise, wages should also rise. A lot of my class mates said things like raising the price of one’s income or making houses cheaper but I do not think it’s that much of a simple fix. On another note with creating more jobs.. I think businesses need to give more people chances to work (like people who have been convicted in the past, people who have no home, etc.) I’ve been looking into capitalism lately and it’s not perfect. I believe the people who benefit from this economic system are few and far between. ‘Low skilled workers’ I feel have a very hard time succeeding in this economic system. What was also shocking was the poverty line and middle class. I figured middle class was around $80,000-$120,000 salary.
