In this assessment, you will assess interactions between microbes, the human immune system, and infectious diseases.

Scenario
Imagine you are a med student completing your third-year rotation through the infectious disease unit at the local hospital. The attending physician was impressed with your work and asked you to prepare a presentation for the upcoming group of new third-year students.

Assessment Preparation
Review the infectious diseases you learned about this week (e.g., gastroenteritis, genital herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), influenza, long COVID, meningitis, etc.).

Select 1 infectious disease to focus on for this assignment.

Assessment Deliverable
Create a presentation in which you explain how microbes negatively impact the human body and how the immune system fights the microbes/infectious disease you selected.

For your presentation, you should:

Identify the microbe/infectious disease and explain how it affects the human body.
Provide an overview of the workings of the immune system, including the major components, and any barriers the microbe might encounter as it makes its way through the body.
Explain how the immune system works to expel the microbe.
