In this assignment, students will narrate and analyze their own migration story (or the migration story of a person close to you) in historical context of global and historical movements of people.
Over the course of the last 5 units, you have explored both your own family history of migration, and migration in historical context. Your assignment is to put your family research (oral histories and genealogical work), course reading, and scholarly research together into a research paper that narrates and analyzes your own migration story.
Your migration story must engage with the histories of the sending and receiving regions. And your migration story must be told using scholarly research on migration to and from the regions relevant to your story. Your paper should be 5-7 pages in length. You must cite the sources of all information and quotations in footnotes or endnotes. Your paper must include a bibliography that includes at least 3 external scholarly sources that you have referenced in your paper, as well as the course materials you incorporated into your analysis.
