What are the Sounds? Since most sounds in a film, besides dialogue, are added to the film in postproduction, you will be the sound designer for this short film.
OBJECTIVE
Observe the action in a film and create a list of diegetic sounds (sound that can be heard by characters in a film) you would add during postproduction if you were the sound designer. Also, you are to demonstrate your understanding of the meaning of “diegetic sound.”
INSTRUCTIONS
Watch the short YouTube silent film embedded below.
Create a list of diegetic sounds you would have to add in postproduction.
The sounds need to come from the beginning of the film to the 47 second mark.
The sounds must have a visual element (you can’t add sounds that are not connected to a visual element).
The list needs to be in the order the sounds would occur in the film.
The list needs to be at least 10 sounds from the beginning of the film to the 47 second mark. (I’ve counted over 10.)
Do not include sounds from the repeated sections beginning at the 48 second mark and later.
Put the sound list in numeric order (1, 2, 3. etc.) as they occur in the film.
Upload the sound list as a Word Doc or PDF or as a text entry.
