Fields of Social Work- Clinical Practice
Objective:
To introduce students to a practical approach for the treatment of trauma in one of the major fields of social work practice, specifically clinical practice.
Students will explore the EMDR Container Exercise, which is designed to support emotional regulation and create a safe space for individuals during trauma therapy.
The Container Exercise in EMDR is primarily used during Phase 2: Preparation of the 8-phase EMDR protocol.
Submission and Grading
1. In your own words, define trauma and trauma-informed care.
2. Discuss the importance of creating safe environments for clients across various fields of social work practice experiencing trauma. Think about how these safe spaces can address both the individual needs of clients and the larger societal issues they may face.
3.After listening to this week’s lecture recording here, reflect on how learning about the EMDR Container Exercise enhances your understanding of trauma recovery in social work. Write a few thoughts and feelings about how this can create a “safe place” for clients. How can you utilize this visualization in your personal life or future practice in social work?
