Plea bargains are agreements between defendants and prosecutors in which defendants agree to plead guilty to some or all of the charges against them in exchange for concessions from the prosecutors. An overwhelming majority of criminal cases are resolved via plea bargaining (well over 90 percent). Despite this, court dockets are full and the few jury trials that do take place, are not always timely.
Research and write a paper on the pros and cons of plea bargains. Have your paper address the impact on the criminal justice system if the U.S. Supreme Court held that plea bargaining was unconstitutional. Finally, include proposed changes to the plea bargaining process to make it more efficient, and/or more equitable.
