Terrorism Case Study: 2017 Las Vegas Music Festival shooting
Prepare a one-page memo/essay addressing whether your assigned incident was international terrorism, domestic terrorism, or neither. Your writing should be clear, concise, and address all relevant information.
International terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups who are inspired by, or associated with, designated foreign terrorist organizations or nations (state-sponsored).
Domestic terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.
Remember that for terrorism one of the main criteria is the intention — was there a motive/intent to further any ideological goals, political agenda, influence government, etc.
Format: One page, one-inch margins, Times New Roman 12, single spaced, one
space between paragraphs.
Your memo will follow a modified IRAC Legal Analysis: Issue, Rule, Analysis,
Conclusion.
Issue: What is the issue the memo will address? Provide a brief description of the attack/incident, detailing the situation.
Rule: What definition applies based on the fact pattern? Provide the appropriate definition in your memo. If it falls into neither, you may need to include both definitions to address each.
Analysis: Apply the facts of the case to the definition
Conclusion: final findings
