Prepare a 3-5 page response to the following scenario and prompts.
You are the principal of a school established in 1958. Several of the original buildings are still standing and in fair condition. There are also several newer buildings on campus. In the heart of the campus is the original gymnasium where two state basketball titles were won. Recently, the school has experienced tremendous growth, and new facilities are needed for arts and recreation. You have two groups being vocal in the local community. One groups wants new facilities. The other group wants to preserve the old facilities with renovations.
Important facts:
1. The gym has asbestos flooring and roofing.
2. The only available land is either a wetland or remote from campus by 1/2 mile.
3. Current budget resources cannot pay for the decision meaning loans/bonds will be required.
Your superintendent has requested input from you and your stakeholders.
Discussion Questions:
1. What are potential obvious and hidden costs of both options?
2. What are potential obvious and hidden benefits of both options?
3. What guiding questions would you use to solicit feedback from stakeholders?
4. If cost are equal, what would be your personal decision and why?
5. Is there a no-win scenario? A can’t lose scenario? A simple compromise scenario?
