Analysis:
1.Meanings of the text. What new meanings are revealed by close reading? Are they the same or do they depart from the source material? What particular kinds of changes or shifts result in differences? Upon close reading, are any of these meanings maybe different from what you intended or surprising?
2.Moments of recognition. Identify and close read at least one moment of “recognition” between your story and the source material. An example might be Desiree’s feet hurting from the pink plastic shoes in Rosa Guy’s My Love, My Love, which is a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. In what ways does your story translate story beats or specific details from the original and in what ways does this echo, complicate, depart from the way in which that moment resonated in the original text?
3.What kinds of sociohistorical and cultural contexts and larger cultural currents may impact the way your version of the story is understood today?
4.Identify and discuss your own use of literary strategies, genre conventions, etc. This might overlap with the close reading.
Primary texts: 275 and 276
Specifically retold the last part of the Ti Jeanne story under the flowers, the last lines about walking backwards; showing the fury side of Maman Dlo and how she will take prisoners
In the middle of page 276(?) talks about how ti Jeanne is scared when Mami wata appears as she knows she will take prisoners but instead, maman dlo applauds her beauty; heavily drew on this story for the retelling
These need to be answered based on a project that was done by my group. I will send the project along with the readings that were used to complete the project. I will also add some notes that were taken by the authors of the retelling on the group project.
