Instructions: Use the research the class has collected (i.e., class database links to an external site.) to answer our question: What effect does blood flow restriction training have on power performance in athletes?
Your answer should synthesize all of the research from the class database, pointing out trends and controversies in the literature.
Be sure that your answer accurately represents every article included in our class database.
The text of this synthesis should be no more than 1 full page, double-spaced with normal 1″ margins and 12-point black type.
Assignment Components:
Follow general APA format for your document and references page. Do not include a Title page.
Provide an evidence-based answer to the question. Your answer should be clear (i.e., you cannot say “there is no right answer”). You need to use the evidence from the class database to determine the answer that the majority of the research supports.
Be sure your answer incorporates ALL evidence gathered by the class. For example, if the database has 5 articles you must use all 5 articles in your synthesis.
Provide a brief recommendation based on your answer to the RQ
Utilize in-text citations, and a reference list at the end, both in APA format.
Keep in mind:
Write in full sentences with appropriate paragraph breaks.
Make sure to provide support for your answer.
This is more than just saying, “2 of the 3 articles support this answer.”
The research should be used to explain the “why”. Give examples from the literature that help explain the answer to the research question.
Use language that you understand and that your classmates will easily understand. General rules of thumb:
No direct quotes. Scientific writing prefers paraphrasing to direct quotes.
In general, avoid discussions of any individual study.
A synthesis focuses on patterns that emerge from several studies.
You might use evidence from 2+ studies to emphasize a particular trend you’ve noticed in the literature.
In general, scientific writing focuses on other people’s evidence, so expect nearly all of your sentences to contain a citation or many citations.
Use scientifically accurate language. Avoid being vague. Make sure that someone who has not read all of the research articles would understand your synthesis.
