This semester, we have begun to focus on what is means to bring our own individual experiences to the critical reading and writing we do. This—in large part—leads us to want to answer several fundamental questions: what motivates us? What drives our behavior? What allows some to succeed while others fail within the same environment? How do the answers to these questions allow to formulate the lens we develop?
Assignment: Write a narrative which allows you to explore an aspect of yourself by sharing your life experiences or one particular experience.
Some questions to get you started may include: How do I perceive the world? How do I perceive my ability to affect my own future? What experiences have been particularly influential in forming who I am? How did I perceive myself when I was a child, and how did that affect my thoughts/actions? How do I perceive myself now, and how does that affect my thoughts/actions? How did I let outside perspectives influence the person I’ve become? What morals or values are worth fighting for?
All essays must consider the speaker, audience, and purpose. What support will you offer in order to prove your claim? How will you organize your essay so that your thoughts are conveyed accurately and effectively? What other aspects of the Rhetorical Framework are worth addressing?
