Discussion Topic
Topic: Intervention Planning and Progress Monitoring
This week, you read about principles and assessment-based intervention planning as well as monitoring student progress. For this discussion, pay attention to data collection methods and planning interventions based on data. Also, consider various stakeholders and their roles in assessing and implementing strategies for improving behavior.
The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that our decision making be based on data. Educators are so busy with all the demands being placed on them, that it is difficult to collect behavioral data during the school day. For your main post, discuss your perspective on the value of relying on memory and anecdotal information as well as systematically measuring behavior. What has been your experience in the collection and use of data to make behavioral decisions in an instructional environment? What types of behavioral dimensions and method of data recording (e.g., duration, latency, event, magnitude, etc.) would be most challenging for you in your current or future position? Why?
Initial or Main Post: You are required to make an initial original post and at least three original peer response posts. Make sure your initial post thoroughly addresses all parts of the discussion prompt. Your comments should be clearly and concisely stated, demonstrating that the content was appropriately reviewed and synthesized. Include in-text citations and references in APA format. Utilize your text, course resources, and other scholarly literature to support your posts.
Peer Responses: In order to meet minimum requirements, respond to at least three of your peers with substantive responses and support these responses with references.
Remember: All postings should be appropriate, using proper language, cordiality, grammar, and punctuation. All citations and references must be in APA format. Posts should be evenly distributed (at least three different days) throughout the week.
