For this assignment, you will conduct research on the national strategy of the United States and its relationship to strategic competition. The product of your research will be a background paper that covers the following requirements:
1) The National Strategy: Explain the importance of having a strategy to secure and defend the nation.
2) The Department of Defense: Explain the role of the Department of Defense in achieving national strategic objectives.
3) Strategic Competition: Explain the relationship between the U.S national strategy and strategic competition.
4) Technical Accuracy & Coverage: The paper must convey your own original thoughts and ideas that are well supported and properly integrated. Support your main points with details, personal examples, credible outside sources, or a combination thereof (as applicable) that are adequate, relevant, and understandable.
5) Format and Mechanics: The paper must meet the following formatting and mechanics requirements:
a. The paper must contain a purpose, outline of main points, and summary/conclusion IAW AFH 33-337.
b. Explanations flow logically through main points to the conclusion.
c. Formatted using Times New Roman, 12pt Font; 1-inch margins all around; single spaced within paragraphs; and double-spaced between paragraphs.
d. Page numbers begin from page 2 onward, placed at the header, flush with right margin.
e. All other grammar, formatting, mechanics, etc. must be consistent with guidance in AFH 33-337, The Air Force Tongue & Quill.
f. Any sources/references used must be credible and cited in the Chicago Manual of Style format. (Credible sources means from Air Force, DoD, or other credible publications/media; NOT Wikipedia, Reddit, or blogs).
g. Paper is one full page in length (two pages max), not including reference page.
