The worship of Hathor, revered as the goddess of music and dance, can be traced back to the 4th Dynasty and is extensively documented in various temples, titles, and texts. (Gillam, 1995, p. 212) My argument posits that spiritual and trance dances and their performers played a vital role in the veneration of the Goddess Hathor during important festivals, notably the Opet festival. These dances originated in Nubia, Sudan, and the nomadic Tuareg Amazigh Berbers and have been practised for over three millennia. Predominately performed by black women, these types of dances are often associated with harvest celebrations, of which Opet is an excellent example.
