CHLDV 174 Administration and Supervision of Early Childhood Programs I Instructor: Deborah Owens Research Paper Assignment Guidelines Each student will conduct a library search for five articles from professional or scholarly journals about an administrative issue. Professional journals include Young Children; Journal of Child Psychology, Child Care Information Exchange, among many others. Choose articles about the same topic or issues or related to the same topic or issue. There must be one central theme or topic connecting the articles you read for this assignment. To complete the assignment, students will: · Identify a topic to focus their research, what are you interested in knowing more about? What about administering programs for young children do you find most challenging? Generating a question or hypothesis about administration and/or supervision in early childhood education can help you focus your research. · Conduct a library search to identify articles addressing your question or hypothesis, remember only articles published in professional or scholarly journals may be used to complete this assignment. You may find that you need to review many articles to find the five articles that are the most relevant to your topic or issue and that interest you.
· Read the articles keeping in mind what you have read in the text and what we have discussed in class. · Write a paper integrating what you have learned from the articles with what you are learning in class and what you already know about the administration and supervision of early childhood programs. Your paper should be a minimum of five (no more than ten) pages typed, double spaced. Please be sure that you have checked spelling and grammar and that you have appropriately cited the articles you read. This paper must be written in your own words and should properly cite direct quotes, paraphrases and references to the work of others. The use of Chat GPT or other generative AI supports is not acceptable. The use of such supports will have a negative effect on your grade for this assignment. Your paper must include: · An introduction ~ a paragraph or two explaining the focus of your research and why this topic may be of interest to you. · A critical analysis of your sources ~ what are your thoughts about what you have read? ~ This is the place where you write about the connections you have made between what you know, what you are learning and what the articles present. You will have several paragraphs if not pages in this section of your paper. · A brief concluding statement ~ describe how the information has influenced your knowledge and understanding of the issue examined. Describe how this might this effect your work as an administrator in the future and/or what additional questions the research may have generated for you. What will you do next to answer those questions. · Bibliography ~cite each article and any other materials referenced in the paper using the American Psychological Association (APA) citation format.
