Write a little narrative in which you dispute who killed the samurai “In a Grove.” My killer to argue is the samurai An unsolved murder is on our hands as a man lies dead “In a Grove.” We will conduct a special project that will require your reasoning and logical skills. Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s piece, “In a Grove,” has become synonymous with being “in the dark” in Japan. The mystery of the murdered samurai has no clear answer from his short piece, but the lack of a clear answer will not stop us from making an argument for one. Your task is to read this very short story and argue who killed the samurai. There are three main suspects, and you will be assigned a killer for whom to argue. Assigning a killer to each of you will help with the counter thesis section of the paper. After we study our chapter on “Clear Thinking, Critical Thinking, and Clear Writing,” you will write a short 3-4 page paper arguing for your assigned murderer. Your paper will be written in two stages: 1. An introduction, thesis, and thesis map due week 1, and 2. A counter thesis, body, and conclusion to finish the paper in week 2. Presentations online will teach you about each required section. Each part will be turned in on the Sunday of the week it is assigned. You will receive corrections and suggestions to the first part. After suggestions for improvement have been made, a final paper numbering 3 pages in length will be handed in by the Sunday of the second week. This means that the second part of the paper should be combined with the first part after corrections have been made to the first part.
