Their actions are decided by responsibility, as they often had to take care of younger siblings or navigate through the family dynamics. People in Gossip Girl were characterized as privileged, which is reflected by their upscale clothing choices. They often dress in designer brands and follow the latest fashion trends. Gossip and the social hierarchies of New York city shape their interactions. The adolescents tend to be more focused on popularity, seeking power, and romantic relationships. The decisions of the characters tend to be made based off their social reputation. In some ways negative but also positive. Shameless shows a dysfunctional family living in poverty. Well Gossip Girl shows the exact opposite and emphasizes their wealth fashion and social status. Characterizations can be seen as a mix of positive and negative. On the positive side these characters are intelligent, have love for their family and are ambitious. But on the negative side their behavior includes manipulation, lack of morals, criminal activities, and substance abuse. That both shows could affect teens in many ways because of their negatives. . While shameless portrays characters dealing with unconventional and challenging circumstances, and Gossip Girl portrays a group of wealthy and privileged adolescents living in New York. While some adolescents may align with these stereotypes, most would not. Both shows feature characters from various backgrounds, and they sometimes touch on racial and class stereotypes. Gossip Girl primarily focuses on wealthy and privileged characters which can reinforce stereotypes related to the upper class. Shame explores characters living in a working-class neighborhood and addresses poverty. Both TV series are targeted towards mature audiences because of their content and how they portray their characters. Like how shameless portrays a family struggling with poverty comma addiction and unconventional lifestyle choices. On the other hand, gossip girl cast a wealthy and privileged teenager who engaged in questionable behavior. Therefore, they are not the best sources of positive role models for younger children. The settings in both TV shows are quite different. While Gossip Girl takes place in an upscale urban setting in New York City, shameless is set in a gritty working-class neighborhood in Chicago.
