Write about the many African Americans who have battled for and contributed to the freedom, rights, and opportunities for achievement of all African Americans throughout the history of our nation. To this day our country continues to benefit from influential African Americans from history and present day. The present-day term that might be used would be “influencers”. What is an influencer? Here are a few definitions: one who exerts influence : a person who inspires or guides the actions of others a person who influences the behavior of others In the context of social media and marketing: a person who is able to generate interest in something (such as a consumer product) by posting about it on social media Your task: Imagine that an important figure from African American history has his/her own social media account. You will create a social media ‘profile’ post for one important African American (think in terms of what would be written in a Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.. profile/bio) and create three additional ‘posts’ for your African American influencer. You can select any African American from history who was born BEFORE 1980 (before Social Media was ‘a thing’). Directions: This assignment will be 4 pages long because each ‘post’ will be on a single page. 1. The first ‘post’ page will contain: Name of the influencer at the top of the page and date of birth/death (if applicable) An image of the influencer A caption under the image introducing the influencer (a profile/mini biography) and describing important contributions or traits This caption must be a minimum of 75 words in length At least 3 (three) hashtags that would be relevant to the influencer in general or to the image specifically 2. Pages 2, 3, and 4 will be additional ‘posts’ about your influencer. You can pretend like the influencer is posting his/her own content, or you can be someone who is doing the posting for the influencer (just be consistent). Each of these three ‘posts’ will contain the following: An image for each post. This can be another image of your influencer or an artifact associated with your influencer. You all will be selecting different influencers, so you determine what are the best artifacts to represent your influencer. Examples: If your influencer was a preacher, then an artifact could be a speech. If your influencer was a teacher, then an artifact could be a school building. If your influencer is a musician, then your artifact could be a song/lyrics. If your influencer is a model, then your artifact could be photos or clothing worn. (A painter=paintings; an architect=buildings; an actor=tv or film examples) As always, include all relevant information for artifacts to include the title of the artifact and date created If you decide to include images of the influencer instead of or in addition to artifacts, then include all relevant information for the image to include title, date, and location. Write a description of the image or artifact for each post under the image. Don’t assume the reader knows what it is. Every post will have at least 3 (three) hashtags that would be relevant to the influencer in general or to the image specifically. You can determine the tone of the posts based on the contributions of the influencer that you have selected. Will your tone be somber, informative, playful, humorous, etc…? 3. The information for this assignment is considered encyclopedic knowledge and the images are in the public domain (don’t use images with watermarks), so I will not be requiring any documentation AS LONG AS EVERYTHING IS WRITTEN IN YOUR OWN WORDS (this means paraphrase everything from your sources). This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin (plagiarism and AI detector). 4. Make sure you proofread your assignment for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 5. I have not taught this course before, so I do not have a sample document to share. However, my Greek/Roman Tradition course has a similar assignment.
