The responses should take the form of a short critical essay that responds to a single course reading. Like all essays, the response essay should include an introduction, thesis, several paragraphs, and conclusion. The reading responses should respond to on one reading, though they may reference other readings in the syllabus (including those from other weeks). To do well, responses should not simply be summaries of the chosen reading, but should critically analyze the reading’s thesis, arguments, evidence, and implications. Students must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of selected reading and related course materials.
This assignment is a response paper on designated course materials. It is not a research paper. You are not expected to undertake independent research or consult external sources. You are instead expected to analyze the specified course materials.
Reading responses should be 750 words (including parenthetical citations, excluding the bibliography), typed in 12-point font, and double-spaced. Responses longer than 750 words (including parenthetical citations, excluding the bibliography) will be penalized -5%.
