Media analysis
Choose a media artifact and write a 3-5 page paper analyzing it from an intersectional sociological perspective. A “media artifact” can be a music video, an advertisement, a TikTok video, a television show, a movie, etc. Analyze the role of gender and other intersecting inequalities using concepts we have discussed in class to date (you could discuss gender norms, policing, accounts, the gender binary, plasticity, work, family, care, doing gender, etc.). Include in your analysis an examination of the institutional interests behind your media artifact, following the model of Hesse-Biber. What are the interests operating behind this particular media artifact? How do the images of femininity/masculinity/ gender serve those interests?
