On Feb 23, we discussed transcripts and their use in analyzing interaction. Here are the slides from that lecture. Here is a PDF of the long transcript example we analyzed at the end of class.
Find a recording of some interaction. Or, make a recording of some interaction (with the consent of the participants!)
Create a transcript of it.
Write up your analysis of what is happening in this interaction.
What features of the denotational text help to create textual coherence?
How can you organize it into different interactional moves or moments?
What is happening in the interactional text in terms of changes in identities, or relative status, etc?
The interaction should not be too long, since it takes time to create a good transcript. (More than 1 minute, less than 5 minutes.)
The features you analyze will depend on the interaction you look at.
The write-up should be 500-700 words (2-3 double-spaced pages).
The word-count does not include the transcript. On Feb 23, we discussed transcripts and their use in analyzing interaction. Here are the slides from that lecture. Here is a PDF of the long transcript example we analyzed at the end of class.
