Approach this assignment as a welcome challenge. My intent is for students to begin looking at the strategic issues in the world and think through what Opportunities and Threats exist and what they mean for the future for any state or non-state actor you choose. You will be required to apply structured analytic techniques, effective research, and effective writing to convey a foresight analysis. You will be challenged to think critically and mitigate bias. –Use the 3-4 hypotheses you generated from the foresight analysis to perform an Analysis of Competing Hypotheses. You may use a table like we discussed in class to present the hypotheses, evidence, and evaluation. Make sure you cite each piece of evidence you use. The evidence must be from credible evaluated sources. –Once you complete your ACH and you are able to fine-tune your hypothesis selection to one or two hypotheses (most times the evidence could be consistent with more than one hypothesis), select one hypothesis. This is when you will begin to flesh out your argument map. The argument map must present at least 3 reasons with supporting evidence (you should already have your main pieces of evidence, and a comprehension of drivers/assumptions (You may retool your drivers and assumptions to serve as your principal reasons. You also must consider/include at least one objection to your argument and rebut it in the same paper. These are the key elements of your paper. —The format will include: Cover Page (No abstract) Executive Summary (1 page single spaced) Analysis of Competing Hypotheses (should be approx. 2 pages) Argument Map (chart in word or screenshot from PowerPoint) (1 page) Argument Paper.
