Professor Instructions and Requirments Below:
Goal: Using the Week 6 Compare Outline, write a compare/contrast essay on the selection from The Golden Ass by Apuleius, and “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs.
Length: about 500 words, organized into paragraphs
Format:
For the first draft, if you know MLA style, please follow this.
How to approach this exercise: Review the portion of the Week 6 Lecture on Comparing. Reread the stories; think about them, annotate them. Review the literary terms we have been learning. Review your Compare outline and make any changes or revisions to your preliminary thoughts. For the essay, you don’t have to compare every element in the story; focus on one general area (theme, or setting, for example). The essay should have a strong introductory paragraph that includes a one-sentence plot summary (include one sentence for each story!) and your general statement about the two stories. Develop the essay with the details (supporting evidence) of your comparison and contrast. The concluding paragraph should review your findings and show how the process of comparison has shed light on your interpretation of each work. Other than a 1 or 2-sentence summary, your essay should not retell the plot.
This is NOT a research assignment. You should not use any outside (secondary) sources.
