To prepare for this discussion, review module 1 resources about lifecycles and lifecycle thinking. Review module 4 resources about life cycle assessments. In particular, view the Life Cycle Assessment Overview – Smartphone Example and skim chapter 4 of our textbook.
Important: Before you proceed with your discussion post, make sure you understand the differences between life cycle stages and life cycle assessment steps. If you are not clear about how these differ, review the materials.
In your initial post, address the following with at least one paragraph for each of the three topics listed:
Describe the phases or stages of a product lifecycle using an example product or service (not a T-shirt, plastic bottle, or Smartphone). What is lifecycle thinking?
Define Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) including the four steps of an LCA. (Make sure you are describing an ISO-standard LCA process.)
What is cradle-to-grave? What is cradle-to-cradle?
Respond to two of your classmates’ posts in 2+2 format with substantive replies that provide additional insight. Help them gain a stronger understanding of the concepts. As in all your discussions, cite a source that you use to add helpful substance to your replies.
Your post and responses should be submitted with correct grammar and spelling. Remember to cite your sources.
