You must do your own work and use Turnitin. I will not accept any paper that has any cut and
paste material. You’ll submit, formatting is: 1” margins all around, double spaced, Times
New Roman 12-point font.
There is a three-page minimum, but I really expect to see a full five pages as there is much to
write about. I can tell when a student has done the work and when they have waited until the
last minute to throw something together. Don’t be in that latter group.
Question 1:
The terms “precedent” and “stare decisis” are used to describe how a judge’s interpretation of
a law can become law itself. Do your own independent research into what “precedent” and “stare
decisis” means and using your own words, define those terms.
Question 2:
What are the four major sources of law? Describe each source…meaning, for example, who
creates that source of law? How do the sources of law relate to one another? Do any sources of
law have a greater influence thanothers? If so, why?
Question 3:
Explain, in general, what the difference is between “criminal” law and “civil law.” We will be
studying issues that are subject to the civil law “procedural” requirements. In your research, you
should have learned how civil law disputes are resolved. Walk me through the basic
procedure…tell me how a lawsuit begins, what the parties must do once a lawsuit has been
initiated, and how a lawsuit eventually gets decided. Then, of course, you should walk me
through the basic “appeals” process.
