My hypotheses/prediction: We have several predictions in this study. First, if participants are asked to rate the extent
to which a series of words describes themselves, then they will recall more of those
words than if they are asked to rate whether those words describe either their best friend
or the United States President, with no recall differences expected between the best friend
and President conditions. Second and third, we predict that if participants engage in self-
rating, then they will feel both more confident in their recall and more strongly agree that
their recall is better than the average participant compared to those who engage in either
friend-rating or President-rating, with no expected differences between these last two
conditions. However, for our fourth prediction, we hypothesize that all participants –
regardless of their condition – will agree that they recall words better when they think
about how those words relate to themselves
