Directions: Read “The Confederate Monuments We Shouldn’t Tear Down” (textbook pgs. 725-728) in the file and complete the following tasks.
Part I: Summary
Summarize the article in a short paragraph. In your summary, you should identify the author’s claim and the major reasons he provides for his claim. Follow the guidelines for summary writing as was taught in this course. (100-150 words)
Part II: Rhetorical Analysis
Write an extended paragraph where you analyze the rhetorical elements of the article (200 words). You must cover all the elements listed below.
Tells —identify and explain the reason for the argument
Kaisers —identify and explain the occasion for the argument
Identify and explain the type of argument it is (factual, definition, evaluation, etc.).
Rhetorical Appeals – identify the elements of pathos, logos, and ethos in the text. Provide specific examples from the text for each element and explain the effect they produce.
Evaluate the overall strength and effectiveness of the author’s argument.
Part III: The Structure of the Argument
Write a paragraph where you identify the argument structure employed by the author (is it Toulmin or Nigerian structure?). Explain and provide examples of various elements that prove your point.
(100-150 words)
Part III – Your response to the article
What is your take on the issue under discussion? Do you agree or disagree with the author’s position? Elaborate in 1 paragraph (200 words).

Use MLA page format, font Times New Roman in size 12
include MLA citation for the article (see textbook page 509 #10 for help).
The length of the finished exam answers should be around 2 typed pages.
