This speech requires you to persuade your audience of your position—not just argue your
position. While your argument might be logically sound, that doesn’t guarantee that it will be
persuasive to a particular audience. This assignment requires you to consider what your audience
needs and why they might disagree with you. Your speech will need to consider areas where the
audience might be persuaded and speak to those areas in a way that highlights your shared
interests. Although you may not completely persuade them of all points of merit given the
timeframe you’ve been allotted, your speech will need your audience to sympathize, better
understand, and see the merits of your position.
