Chapters Six and Seven of the textbook provide a kaleidoscopic view of life in the United States after the Revolution. In many ways, the Revolutionary Era and Early Republic were periods of profound political, social, and cultural change but also significant social and cultural continuity. In other words, while some aspects of American life changed in major ways, other aspects of American life changed little or hardly at all.
Complete both tasks below to receive full points on this discussion assignment:
TASK 1: Post a 300- to 400-word response to the discussion question: How did life in the United States change—or not change—after the Revolution.
A. Review the lecture PowerPoint and Chapter Six and Seven of The American Yawp.
B. Write a paragraph that identifies two features of life during the Early Republic that you find interesting/significant and explain how they illustrate either change and/or continuity after the Revolution.
C. Include one short quotation from The American Yawp and corresponding MLA-style parenthetical citation—include “Locke and Wright” (the last names of the editors of the book) and the corresponding page number(s) in a parenthetical citation at the end of the sentence that comprises the quotation. For instance, if you’re reading the online version without page numbers, your citation should look like this: (Locke and Wright). If you’re reading the PDF with page numbers, your citation should look like this (Locke and Wright 32) or (Locke and Wright 32-33).
Part 2. Separate Page:
TASK 1: Post a 100-200-word reflection on your work last week.
Which topic, issue, fact, or reading sticks out in your mind? Did you learn something new last week? Did you learn something new about something that was (or you thought was) already familiar? Did you remember or rediscover something you had forgotten? Do you encounter something last week that overlaps with something from an earlier module in the class—or, better yet, another history class or a class outside of history (political science, sociology, philosophy, English, etc.)?
