Research federal and state-wide marriage incentives (Such as the Healthy Marriage Initiative, tax breaks available following marriage, welfare programs that encourage marriage, etc.). Using at last two outside sources (these can include extra material included in the “Help!” section on Blackboard) and your textbook, write a 3-page paper answering the following questions:
What are the potential public benefits associated with legal marriage?
Do these policies encouraging marriage have the potential to encourage healthy marriages? Why, or why not?
What concerns have scholars made regarding these types of initiatives?
Based on your research, do you think we should encourage Americans to enter marriage in these ways? Why or why not?
