Book: Fitzgerald, D.G. (2015) Informants, Cooperating Witnesses, and Undercover Investigations (2ed.). CRC Press
his week will be a Discussion Board pertaining to ethics and handling an informant involving the case and circumstances of former FBI Special Agent Mark Putnam, who had an affair with his informant Susan Daniels Smith, and murdered her. I will provide some more background in my lecture.
DB#4: What could have been done to prevent or at least lessen the possibility of Putnam having an affair with his informant, and of murdering her, along with how could it have been solved in a timelier manner?
It is your choice what approach and topics you want to present in your submission, for example you can focus on lack of supervisor oversight, policies and procedures that were nor followed, handling mishaps, obviously egregious ethical violations, and/or what could have law enforcement could have done to solve this murder (for example, perhaps took harder look at Putnam??).
