Think of a person in your personal or work life who isn’t a good listener. If applicable, this person could be you. Describe this person’s poor listening behavior and give an example that shows this person’s poor listening skills.
What are some barriers to effective listening that you know are a factor for this person? These barriers can include physical and mental distractions, biases and prejudices, lack of appropriate focus, and premature judgment.
What suggestions would you make to help him or her listen more effectively?
Can we improve our listening — is it something that can be learned rather than a trait we are born with?
Step 2: Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two other students. Incorporate personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
