Write a word description of your proposed capstone project topic. Include the following:
1. Foley catheter (CAUTI and lack of nursing documentation for placement and maintenance)
2. Where can be seen this issue??? ER and Inpatient that meet criteria for foley insertion–> see table 2.A for the main reason of foley insertion
3. A description (providing a high level of detail) regarding the problem or issue (CAUTI continues being a problem due to interprofessional efforts for prevention and there is a lack of proper nursing documentation for foley placement and maintenance, including patients that arrived at facility w/ a foley already in place. Unnecessary foley catheter placement)
4. Effect of the problem or issue (poorer patient outcomes, increase length of stay, increase cost of stay, due to need of abx–> increased risk for resistance to abx)
5. Significance of the topic and its implications for nursing practice.
6. A proposed solution to the identified project topic with an explanation of how it will affect nursing practice. (More in depth training during first week of hiring new nurse to facility and recurrent training/check off for foley placement skills, maintenance, and proper documentation as well as timely follow up soon after foley placement–> follow up of initial documentation being done)
