Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapter 1 of the Kellogg (2017) text, the required Saniotis (2009) and Sherwood (2008) articles, and view the YouTube video How the Brain Works Animation: Human Brain Structure and Function (Links to an external site.) (2016). This video provides details of the parts and functions of the brain, how the brain has evolved, and the interrelated nature of the parts of the brain to the whole.
Creating a brain map is one of the best ways to build understanding of the separate and interrelated parts of how the brain functions. The way we “imagine” how the brain works best is open to each individual. In other words, although the function and structure of the brain remains the same, each person creates a mental map of how they can best make sense of these concepts.
For this assignment, you will
Create a brain-map of the structures and functions of the brain using the following website: bubbl.us (Links to an external site.). See an example here: Brain Map Example Download Brain Map Example
Export your brain map to a JPG file and add your title and reference pages. Your brain-map must include the below structures. Be sure to include their related functions (example, which area is responsible for speech).
Occipital, parietal, temporal, and frontal lobes
The motor and somatosensory cortex
Brainstem
Cerebellum
Hippocampus
Basal ganglia
Amygdala
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Explain
The flow of your brain-map and how this has helped you understand how the brain
How environmental and biological factors may influence how we learn.
One creative way you could teach/work with children or adults on how they can better understand how their brain learns and processes different kinds of information. Tailor your answers to your future career.
