Cooper, Heron, and Heward explain behavior analysts “use a building block method to develop repertoires for clients” (pg. 61), essentially practitioners teach a more complex skill by teaching simpler and more attainable skills first. This is a very systematic and methodical approach to teaching, and behavior analysts believe choosing target behaviors that are behavior cusps and pivotal behaviors could improve the efficiency of developing new behaviors.
