The Essentials: Corse Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (AACN, 2021), BSN graduates are expected to “apply theory and research-based knowledge from the arts, humanities, and sciences” (p. 29), “advance the scholarship of nursing” (p. 40), “integrate best evidence into nursing practice” (p. 41), and “promote the ethical conduct of scholarly activities” (p. 41). Policies, procedures, and interventions to improve patient outcomes should be evidence-based.
There are two choices for this discussion post. Not everyone has participated in an evidence-based project or nursing research. Every nurse should use the nursing process selecting interventions to improve patient outcomes that are evidence-based or proven by nursing research.
Discuss ways in which you have used interventions that are based on research in your clinical nursing practice. Explain how and why you selected these interventions. Be sure to include how these interventions improved client outcomes.
Alternative discussion: if you have created or assisted with an evidence-based project or nursing research in the clinical area, discuss that nursing research by answering these questions:
What was the problem (patient, system, or some other issue)?
Briefly discuss the methodology and results of that evidence-based project or research study.
What was the outcome? Did a policy/procedure change based on the results? Was there a change in the system based on the results? Did you see improvement in patient outcomes?
